How to Join or Start a Public Team

To join a Public Team, open the map and go to the social menu. From there, check the Public Teams list to see what teams are available, what type they are, and how many players are already in them.

If there is room, select the team and join. Once you are on the team, the benefits begin right away. You do not have to stay near your teammates unless the team type is focused on a shared activity, such as Daily Ops, Expeditions, Raids, or Events.

If the team you want is full, or if there are no teams for what you want to do, you can start your own Public Team. Choose the team type that matches your goal, such as Casual for general play, Events for public events, or Daily Ops for Daily Operations. Other players may join if they are looking for the same bonus or activity.

The Six Public Team Types

Casual

Casual

Casual Teams give an Intelligence bonus, which helps increase XP earned from kills. This is usually the best all-purpose team because there are no real expectations. You can quest, build, craft, explore, do events, or play mostly solo while still getting the team bonus.

Best for: General play, leveling, crafting, questing, and XP farming

Daily Ops

Daily Ops

Daily Ops Teams are for players who want to run Daily Operations. These are instanced missions with objectives, enemy mutations, and rewards. If you join this team type, you should be ready to enter the Daily Op and help complete it.

Best for: Daily Ops rewards, ammo farming, SCORE challenges, XP, and team combat

Expeditions

Expeditions

Expeditions Teams are for players who want to run Expedition missions outside Appalachia. These teams are useful when you want help completing objectives faster or farming Expedition rewards.

Best for: Expedition runs, reward farming, and structured team missions

Raids

Raids

Raids Teams are for harder group content. Players may expect teammates to be prepared with decent gear, supplies, and a build that can handle tougher fights. This team type is usually more focused than Casual or Exploration.

Best for: Raid content, harder challenges, and coordinated group play

Events

Events

Events Teams are for players who want to complete public events. These teams are useful for farming event rewards, treasury notes, seasonal rewards, and XP from event completions. If you join one, it is a good idea to participate in events when they appear.

Best for: Public events, event rewards, treasury notes, seasonal farming, and group activities

Exploration

Exploration

Exploration Teams give an Endurance bonus, which can help with health and survivability. These teams are usually relaxed and are good for travelling, questing, discovering locations, or playing at a slower pace.

Best for: Exploring, questing, travelling, and extra survivability

Sharing Perks on a Team

Players can share one equipped perk card with their teammates. To share a perk, open your perk card menu, highlight the perk you want to share, and select the share option.

The main thing to remember is Charisma: you need 3 points of Charisma for every 1 point the perk card costs.

9 Charisma

After the perk is shared, your teammates can benefit from it as long as you stay on the team and keep that perk equipped. When choosing what to share, pick something useful to most players, such as a perk that helps with survival, travel, carrying weight, XP, or general convenience.

Perks and Mutations That Benefit Team Play

Some perks and mutations are especially helpful because they offer benefits while you are on a team.

Inspirational

Helps increase XP while on a team, making it useful for leveling.

Strange in Numbers

Improves the positive effects of mutations when you are on a team with other mutated players.

Squad Maneuvers

Can help with movement speed while on a team, which is useful for travelling, exploring, and moving through events.

Herd Mentality

Gives a bonus to SPECIAL stats while you are on a team, even if you are mostly playing on your own.

Empath (mutation)

A team-focused mutation that can help reduce damage taken by teammates.

Perks to Be Careful Sharing

Most shared perks are helpful, but be careful with perks that remove or heal radiation damage. Some players use low-health or Bloodied builds, which rely on keeping a large amount of radiation damage so their health stays low and their build bonuses stay active.

If you share a perk that removes radiation, you could accidentally weaken their build or make them more vulnerable. Unless you know your team wants that effect, avoid sharing perks that heal teammates' radiation damage.

Which Team Should You Choose?

For most players, Casual is the easiest and most useful choice because it gives extra XP and lets you keep doing your own thing.

Choose Daily Ops, Expeditions, Raids, or Events when you are planning to take part in that activity. Choose Exploration when you want a relaxed team with extra survivability.

If there is not a team available for what you want to do, start your own. Pick the team type that fits your activity, and other players can join if they want the same goal or bonus.
